Public Deposits in Banks Reach Rp 6,820 Trillion in May 2021

Public deposits in banks are growing. The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) released a report showing Third Party Funds (TPF) totaling Rp 6,819.9 trillion in May 2021. This figure represents a 0.6% increase from the previous month and a 10.8% increase compared to May of the previous year.

In addition to TPF, deposits from other banks also increased. The amount rose 10.3% month-on-month and 12% year-on-year, reaching Rp 110 trillion in the fifth month of this year. Therefore, total deposits in commercial banks reached Rp 6,929.4 trillion.

By deposit type, deposits dominated total savings with Rp 2,805 trillion, followed by savings accounts (Rp 2,211 trillion), and current accounts (Rp 1,838 trillion). Other deposits include demand deposits (Rp 73 trillion) and deposit certificates (Rp 3 trillion).

The total deposits were mostly held in private national banks and state-owned banks (BUMNs), amounting to Rp 2,980 trillion and Rp 2,885 trillion respectively. Rp 656 trillion was held in Regional Development Banks (BPDs), Rp 223 trillion in foreign banks, and Rp 186 trillion in mixed banks.

The total deposits recorded by LPS in May 2021 increased by 0.8% from April 2021. Furthermore, it increased by 10.8% compared to the same month last year.
