ATM and Debit Card Transactions Reach 7.4 Billion in 2021

Financial transactions using ATM and debit cards continue to show growth despite the emergence of digital financial services using e-money.

Based on data from Bank Indonesia (BI), financial transactions using ATM and debit cards grew by 8.75% to 7.24 billion transactions throughout 2021. Previously, financial transactions via ATM cards totaled 6.66 billion transactions.

The highest number of ATM and debit card transactions was recorded in DKI Jakarta, reaching 2.59 billion transactions (35%) of the total transactions last year. This was followed by West Java with a transaction volume of 1.06 billion transactions.

Next was East Java with a transaction volume of 597.34 million ATM and debit card transactions. Then Central Java with 576.22 million transactions, North Sumatra with 237.53 million transactions, and Banten with 214.78 million transactions.

South Sulawesi is among the provinces with the highest volume of ATM and debit card transactions, reaching 178.4 million transactions. This was followed by Riau with 154.31 million transactions, East Kalimantan with 138.75 million transactions, South Sumatra with 127.83 million transactions, and Yogyakarta Special Region with 117.87 million transactions.

The total volume of ATM and debit card transactions in these 10 provinces accounted for more than 80% of the total transactions throughout last year.

During the January-April 2022 period, the volume of ATM and debit card transactions reached 2.46 billion transactions. This figure increased by 5.33% compared to the same period the previous year.
