In 2019, Indonesia had 65.5 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This figure represents a 1.98% increase compared to 2018, which recorded 64.2 million units.
Broken down, the number of micro-enterprises in 2019 reached 64.6 million. Small businesses numbered 798,700 units, while medium-sized businesses totaled 65,500 units.
These MSMEs accounted for 99.99% of the total business units in Indonesia. Large businesses constituted only 0.01% of the total domestic business units.
MSMEs also absorbed 119.6 million people, or 96.92% of Indonesia's total workforce. This figure increased by 2.21% from the previous year's 116.9 million.
Furthermore, MSMEs contributed 60.51% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices. Their contribution to GDP at constant prices reached 57.14%.
Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports originating from MSMEs reached 339.2 trillion Rupiah in 2019. This amounted to 15.65% of Indonesia's total exports two years prior.
