ATM Card, Electronic Money, and Credit Card Transaction Data in Indonesia up to August 2024

Transaction values using ATM and debit cards are significantly higher than those of electronic money or credit cards.

According to a Bank Indonesia (BI) report, in August 2024, the national transaction value for ATM and debit cards reached Rp590.77 trillion, while electronic money reached Rp220.87 trillion, and credit cards reached Rp37.19 trillion.

The figures here represent the total value of cash transactions, shopping transactions, and transfers.

While electronic money and credit cards show stronger growth rates, their values remain smaller than those of ATM and debit cards.

From January to August 2024, the transaction value of ATM and debit cards reached Rp4.89 quadrillion, a 7.13% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 (year-on-year/yoy).

On the other hand, the transaction value of electronic money from January to August 2024 surged by 35.76% (yoy) to Rp1.6 quadrillion.

Meanwhile, the transaction value of credit cards from January to August 2024 grew by 7.18% (yoy) to Rp284.63 trillion.

Electronic money transactions have grown faster and surpassed credit card transactions since January 2019, as shown in the graph.

The following are the numbers of payment instruments using cards (APMK) and electronic money in Indonesia as of August 2024, listed from the highest to the lowest:

* Electronic money: 887.8 million units
* ATM and debit cards: 316.58 million units
* Credit cards: 18.23 million units
