Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that cash withdrawals during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays in 2022 reached Rp180.2 trillion.
This figure represents a 16.6% increase compared to the same period in 2021, which totaled Rp154.5 trillion.
This growth in cash withdrawals during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2022 occurred throughout Indonesia.
Java recorded the highest cash withdrawals, reaching Rp110.1 trillion, a 19.6% year-on-year (yoy) increase.
This was followed by Sumatra, which saw a 6.5% yoy growth to Rp35.3 trillion, and Sulawesi-Maluku-Maluku Utara-Papua (Sulampua), which grew by 13.3% yoy to Rp15.0 trillion.
Cash withdrawals in Kalimantan grew by 15.2% yoy to Rp12.5 trillion. Meanwhile, the Bali-Nusa Tenggara Timur-Nusa Tenggara Barat (Bali Nusra) region recorded a 42.4% yoy growth, reaching Rp7.4 trillion.
"The realization is still within the range of cash allocation that BI has prepared to anticipate the community's transaction needs during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2022," said BI's Executive Director and Head of the Communication Department, Erwin Haryono, in a written statement on Monday (May 9, 2022).
Erwin also revealed that the growth in cash withdrawals during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2022 was higher than before the pandemic, where growth was only 9.21% yoy in May 2019.

In addition to cash withdrawals, non-cash transactions through BI-FAST, which remained fully operational during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, also reportedly increased.
The nominal value of BI-FAST transactions in April 2022 grew by 51.88% month-to-month (m-to-m) to Rp100.25 trillion.
In terms of volume, BI-FAST transactions grew by 32.72% (m-to-m), reaching 24.55 million transactions in April 2022.
The highest nominal value of BI-FAST transactions occurred on D-7 Eid al-Fitr (April 25, 2022), reaching Rp5.93 trillion with a volume of 1.28 million transactions.
