The Number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Decreased to 77 in 2022: Here's the Breakdown

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in 2022 was recorded at 77 companies.

This number comprises 52 limited liability companies (Persero), 13 publicly listed companies (Persero Tbk), and 12 public corporations (Perum).

The number of SOEs in 2022 decreased compared to 2021, which stood at 95 companies. The breakdown for 2021 was 69 Persero, 14 Persero Tbk, and 12 Perum.

The trend shows a general decrease in the number of SOEs each year, as seen in the graph. The highest number in the last five years was in 2018, with 118 SOEs.

The breakdown for 2018 includes 88 Persero, 16 Persero Tbk, and 14 Perum.

According to Law No. 19 of 2003, SOEs consist of public corporations (Perum) and limited liability companies (PT Persero).

BPS explains that Perum are SOEs whose entire capital is owned by the state and is not divided into shares, aiming for public benefit through the provision of goods and/or services.

Persero, on the other hand, are SOEs in the form of limited liability companies whose capital is divided into shares. Persero are divided into two categories.

First, publicly listed companies (PT Persero Tbk) whose capital is owned by the government and the public through the issuance of shares traded on the stock exchange. Second, PT Persero are companies 100% owned by the government.

BPS added that the manufacturing, finance and insurance, and transportation & warehousing sectors are the most prevalent sectors for these state-owned companies.
