DBS Group Holdings remains the bank with the largest assets in Southeast Asia. Based on Bloomberg data, DBS's assets at the end of 2017 reached Rp 5,263.1 trillion, surpassing those of other ASEAN banks. The second and third largest banks are also from Singapore: Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) with Rp 4,624.9 trillion and United Overseas Bank (UOB) with Rp 3,645.5 trillion.
Of the 10 banks with the largest assets in Southeast Asia, the majority are still from Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Meanwhile, Indonesian banks lag behind, making it difficult for them to compete with other regional banks.
Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), which has the largest assets in Indonesia at Rp 1,126.2 trillion, ranks only 11th. Bank Mandiri is 12th, Bank BCA 13th, and Bank BNI 15th in the ASEAN ranking.
