By the third quarter of 2016, Bank BRI had successfully recorded a profit of Rp 18.95 trillion, a 2.9 percent increase from the same period in 2015. This achievement by the government-owned bank was the highest compared to other national banks that had released their financial reports as of September 2016.

Since listing its shares on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2003 until 2015, Bank BRI has consistently recorded profit growth. Not only that, since 2005, the bank, which has been operating since 1895, has also consistently recorded the highest profit compared to other banks.

Another government-owned bank, Bank Mandiri, recorded a profit of Rp 12 trillion for the first three quarters of 2016, placing it second among banks with the largest profits, despite experiencing a 17.62 percent decrease in profit.
