Bank Indonesia (BI) raised its benchmark interest rate, the BI-7 Day Reverse Repo Rate (BI7DRR), by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.75% in January 2023.

"This policy aims to ensure core inflation remains within the range of 3% plus or minus 1% in the first half of 2023," said BI Governor Perry Warjiyo, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Cumulatively, BI has raised its benchmark interest rate by 225 bps since last year. The BI Governor implied that the BI7DRR will not be raised further unless extraordinary circumstances arise, in line with BI's forecast that inflation will ease this year.

According to Trading Economics data, BI's current interest rate level is also the fourth highest in ASEAN. Myanmar holds the top spot, with its central bank's interest rate reaching 7%.

Laos and Vietnam are ranked second and third, with benchmark interest rates of 6.5% and 6%, respectively.

Below Indonesia are Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines, with interest rates of 5%. This is followed by the benchmark interest rates of the central banks of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia at 3.56%, 2.75%, 1.5%, and 0.81%, respectively.

Data for Timor Leste's benchmark interest rate, which became an ASEAN member in November 2022, is unavailable.

Indonesia will host the ASEAN Summit 2023 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara in May 2023. Several priority issues will be discussed, including food security, financial stability, energy security, and health.
