The Majority of Deposits in Indonesian Commercial Banks Were in the Form of Time Deposits in June 2023

According to data from the Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), customer deposits in national commercial banks reached Rp8.087 trillion in June 2023.

This figure increased slightly by 0.5% month-to-month (mom).

Based on deposit type, the majority of customer deposits were in the form of deposits, totaling Rp2.975 trillion.

This total deposit amount decreased by 0.9% (mom). Deposits constituted 36.8% of total deposits in commercial banks.

Next, savings deposits reached Rp2.597 trillion, increasing by 0.8% (mom). This represents 32.1% of total deposits in commercial banks.

Meanwhile, customer deposits in the form of current accounts reached Rp2.449 trillion in June 2023, growing by 2% from the previous month.

Furthermore, deposits on call decreased by 6.7% (mom) to Rp64 trillion (0.8% share), followed by certificate of deposit which plummeted by 38.3% (mom) to Rp3 trillion in June 2023.

Considering bank ownership, the majority of customer deposits were held in banks owned by State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), amounting to Rp3.444 trillion or 42.6% of total deposits in commercial banks.

This is followed by deposits in private national banks (42.2%) and Regional Development Banks or BPDs (9.1%).
