Bank Deposits Increase by 10.7%, Majority Owned by Wealthy Depositors

Total bank deposits reached Rp7.446 trillion in February 2022. The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) reported that this figure increased by 10.7% year-on-year (yoy) and 0.1% month-on-month (m-to-m).

Deposits from the tier above Rp5 trillion amounted to Rp3.818 trillion in February 2022. This figure showed the highest year-on-year increase compared to other tiers, reaching 16.3%. Deposits above Rp5 trillion contributed 51.3% to the total bank deposits.

Next, bank customer deposits in the Rp2 trillion-Rp5 trillion tier grew by 5.3% (yoy) to Rp619 trillion in February 2022 and contributed 8.3% to the total bank deposits.

Furthermore, deposits in the Rp1 trillion-Rp2 trillion tier grew by 5.4% (yoy) to Rp480 trillion. This represents 6.4% of total bank deposits.

Bank deposits in the Rp500 million-Rp1 trillion tier increased by 5.2% to Rp548 trillion in February 2022. This amounts to 7.4% of total bank deposits. Then, deposits in the Rp200 million-Rp500 million tier increased by 5.4% (yoy) to Rp631 trillion, contributing 8.5% to the total bank deposits.

Deposits in the Rp100 million-Rp200 million tier grew by 7.7% (yoy) to Rp402 trillion, equivalent to 5.4% of total bank deposits.

Meanwhile, deposits in the tier below Rp100 million increased by 4.5% (yoy) to Rp948 trillion, contributing 12.7% to total bank deposits.
