BMKG: Recent Earthquake Northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, Magnitude 4.9, No Tsunami Potential

A 4.9 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Mbay, Nagekeo. The epicenter was located at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 46 km northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, November 1, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 14:07:50. It was located at a depth of 21.0 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 8.37°S (South Latitude) and 121.59°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Maumere and Ende at intensities III-IV and III-IV, respectively. An MMI scale of IV means the earthquake was felt by some people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 13 significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the last week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
