BMKG: Recent Earthquake Northeast of Ondong Siau, Magnitude 4.9, No Tsunami Potential

A recent earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude struck Ondong Siau on February 27, 2023. According to a release from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea approximately 82 kilometers southeast of Ondong Siau.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.9 on February 27, 2023, 21:48:19," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 2.16°N (North Latitude) and 125.81°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Manado and Bitung, with intensities of II-III and II-III respectively. One of the MMI scales felt, II, means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded nine significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the last week, varying in magnitude and depth.
