BMKG: Recent Earthquake Northeast of Sukabumi Regency, Magnitude 4.4, No Tsunami Potential

A recent earthquake measuring 4.4 magnitude struck Sukabumi Regency on April 11, 2023. According to a release from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Sukabumi Regency.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.4 on April 11, 2023, 01:24:14," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 7.75°S (South Latitude) and 106.85°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Cianjur, Pajampangan, Cipamingkis, Cidora, Pameungpeuk, Bandung Regency, Garut Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Bogor Regency, Tasikmalaya, Barat, and Pangalengan, with intensities of III, III, III, III, III, II-III, II-III, II-III, II-III, II, II, and II respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded eight significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
