Earthquake Today, January 18, 2024, Shakes Tojo Una-Una

A magnitude (M) 4.5 earthquake struck Tojo Una Una. The epicenter was inland. "The earthquake's epicenter was 5 km northwest of Tojo Una Una, and the quake was felt; this information is to be disseminated to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website on January 18, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 16:06:40. It had a depth of 6.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. The earthquake's coordinates were 1.09°S (South Latitude) and 121.49°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in Ampana and Poso at intensities II-III and II-III, respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) recorded seven significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
