BMKG: Recent Earthquake in Northeast Sukabumi Regency, Magnitude 4.9, No Tsunami Potential

A 4.9 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Sukabumi Regency. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 64 km southeast of Sukabumi Regency at sea, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, March 2, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 10:48:44 AM. It had a depth of 28.0 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 7.55°S (South Latitude) and 106.68°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Sukabumi, Ratu, and Sukabumi City with intensities of III, III, and II-III, respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) recorded six significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
