BMKG: Recent Earthquake Northeast of Garut Regency, Magnitude 4.6, No Tsunami Potential

A recent earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude struck Garut Regency on August 5, 2023. According to a release from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea approximately 121 kilometers southwest of Garut Regency.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.6 on August 5, 2023, 04:15:58," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 8.14°S (South Latitude) and 107.31°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Kertajaya, Warungkondang, Garut, Singajaya, Cikalong, Pangalengan, Cikajang, Cidaun, Sindangbarang, and Cianjur, with intensities ranging from II-III. One of the MMI scales felt was II, meaning the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded six significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
