66% of Citizens Willing to Pay Taxes to Address the Climate Crisis

The public is increasingly aware of the dangers of climate change to daily life. According to a survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, 69% of Indonesians agree that everyone should participate in efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Furthermore, 66% of citizens are willing to pay additional taxes to address the climate crisis. 43% of respondents said they would be willing to pay between Rp 0 and Rp 30,000 in climate crisis taxes.

12% of respondents are willing to pay between Rp 31,000 and Rp 60,000 to address the climate crisis. Another 6% are willing to pay between Rp 61,000 and Rp 90,000.

2% of respondents are willing to pay between Rp 91,000 and Rp 100,000 in climate crisis taxes. A similar percentage of respondents are willing to pay between Rp 121,000 and Rp 150,000. Meanwhile, only 1% of respondents are willing to pay more than Rp 240,000 to address the climate crisis.

However, 24% of respondents are unwilling to pay additional taxes. Meanwhile, 3% of respondents want their tax money refunded if the government spends it on addressing the climate crisis.

Indikator conducted the survey using a stratified multistage random sampling method, targeting 3,020 respondents aged 17 to 35 years between September 9th and 16th, 2021. The response rate was 3,623 people, or 90.1% of the total number of respondents.
