Earthquake Information April 17, 2023 in Pangandaran Regency, 4.9 Magnitude, No Tsunami Potential

A 4.9 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Pangandaran Regency. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 97 km southwest of Pangandaran Regency and this earthquake is felt; information should be disseminated to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, April 17, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 04:38:30. It was located at a depth of 24 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. Meanwhile, the earthquake's coordinates were 8.36°S (South Latitude) and 107.91°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in the areas of Garut, Pangalengan, Pangandaran, Tasikmalaya, Cijulang, Pameungpeuk, and Cikajang with a scale of III, III, III, III, III, III, and III respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed and glass windows vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 10 significant earthquakes felt by the public in Indonesia over the past week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
