According to Auriga Nusantara's research, there was deforestation covering an area of 433,751 hectares in Indonesia throughout 2025.

Auriga defines deforestation as "the reduction of natural forest cover", which includes the loss of dryland forests, peat swamp forests, and mangrove forests, whether primary or secondary forests.

The most significant deforestation in 2025 was recorded on the island of Kalimantan, with a deforestation area of 158,283 hectares.

Next came the island of Sumatra, which experienced deforestation covering an area of 144,150 hectares, and the island of Papua, with 77,678 hectares of deforestation.

Taken together, the deforestation on these three islands accounted for 88% of the total national deforestation area in 2025.

This deforestation occurred in almost all Indonesian provinces, except for DKI Jakarta and DI Yogyakarta.
