Ecological disasters in the form of floods and landslides struck three provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, at the end of November 2025.

The results of a Litbang Kompas survey show that 56.4% of respondents believe that the central government has a strong commitment to making disaster management in Sumatra a national priority agenda.

This proportion consists of 30.6% of respondents who stated a strong commitment and 25.8% who rated it as very strong.

"This indicates that the public is quite aware of the government's policy in handling disasters in Sumatra," Litbang Kompas wrote in its report on Monday (15/12/2025).

Meanwhile, 41.6% of respondents considered this commitment to be still weak. This comprises 30% who stated it was weak and 11.6% who stated it was very weak.

"This attitude of respondents suggests that there is still public doubt, especially regarding the slow escalation of disaster status or the government's initial response," Litbang Kompas wrote.

The survey also explored the sectors deemed most urgent for immediate recovery after the disaster. As many as 31.2% of respondents hoped the government would prioritize the repair of basic infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, electricity, and clean water.

In addition, respondents also placed hope on the economic recovery of communities that had been paralyzed (26.6%), improving health and education services (24.2%), and housing for residents (13.3%).

The survey involved 510 respondents from 76 cities in 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from December 8-11, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's tolerance for error (margin of error) was approximately 4.24% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
