Meranti dominated Indonesian roundwood production in 2020.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the production of roundwood from companies holding forest concession rights (HPH) in Indonesia amounted to 5.26 million cubic meters (m³) in 2020. This figure decreased by 14.7% compared to the previous year, which amounted to 6.17 million m³.

Meranti dominated the production of roundwood from HPH companies in Indonesia last year, reaching 1,643.72 thousand m³. This amount is equivalent to 31.24% of the total roundwood production.

The production of red meranti was recorded at 653.49 thousand m³ last year. This figure is equivalent to 12.42% of the total roundwood production.

The next three largest types of wood are Merbau, Acacia, and Kruing. The production of these three types of wood was 609.71 thousand m³ (11.59%), 500.23 thousand m³ (9.51%), and 331.44 thousand m³ (6.3%), respectively.

In terms of usage, the majority, or 87.47%, of the total roundwood produced in Indonesia was sold by companies. Approximately 3.1% of the total roundwood production was used by the companies themselves.

Furthermore, 9.38% of roundwood production was stored as company stock. Only 0.05% of roundwood production was damaged, lost, and so on.

The production of roundwood from HPH companies is spread across all islands except Java and Bali. Kalimantan is the region with the largest roundwood production, reaching 3.16 million m³ in 2020. This amount represents 60.03% of the total roundwood production in the country.
