Earthquake Today, August 7, 2023, Strikes Bitung

A 4.8 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Bitung. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 81 km northeast of Bitung at sea, and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, August 7, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 08:06:09. It was at a depth of 6.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. Meanwhile, the earthquake's coordinates were 1.74°N (North Latitude) and 125.79°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in the Bitung, Tondano, and Manado areas with intensities of III-IV, III, and II-III respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 11 significant earthquakes felt by the public in Indonesia over the past week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
