The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll from the cold lava floods and landslides in West Sumatra, specifically from Mount Marapi, has risen to 50 as of Tuesday (May 14, 2024).

By region, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Agam Regency with 20 fatalities and Tanah Datar Regency with 19.

There were 8 deaths in Padang Pariaman Regency, 2 in Padang Panjang City, and 1 in Padang City.

BNPB also received reports of 27 missing persons, 37 injured, and 3,396 displaced. "We will continue to search for the missing until they are found. If family members or heirs request a continued search even beyond the 6x24-hour period, we will comply," said BNPB Head Suharyanto in a statement, as reported by *Antara*, Tuesday (May 14, 2024).

He also ensured that all basic necessities for those affected by the cold lava floods would be distributed promptly, both by land and air.

"The restoration of damaged roads and bridges must also be expedited," said Suharyanto.

The flash floods and landslides struck several areas in West Sumatra on Saturday (May 11, 2024) and Sunday (May 12, 2024). The disaster was triggered by heavy rain and overflowing rivers, most of which originate from Mount Marapi.

The floods were exacerbated by volcanic material from Mount Marapi being carried down rivers due to heavy rain around the summit. The disaster reportedly caused serious damage, and a 14-day emergency response period has been declared, effective from Monday (May 13, 2024).
