Earthquake Information: April 21, 2023, Melonguane, 6.4 Magnitude, No Tsunami Potential

A recent earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude struck Melonguane on April 21, 2023. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) release, the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea approximately 141 kilometers southeast of Melonguane.

"Earthquake felt: Magnitude 6.4 on April 21, 2023, at 10:21:14 AM," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 2.81°N (North Latitude) and 127.14°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including South Halmahera, Galela, Ternate, and Tobelo, with intensities of III, III, II-III, and III respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded seven significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
