Recent 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pulau Karatung Region

A 4.8 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Karatung Island. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 80 km northwest of Karatung Island at sea, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, January 12, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 02:05:04. It was at a depth of 10.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. The earthquake's coordinates were 4.82°N (North Latitude) and 126.36°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Tahuna at intensity II-III. An intensity of II means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people, but was recorded by instruments.
