Indonesia's Large and Medium-Sized Industries Dominated by Food Companies in 2021

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) compiled data on large and medium-sized industrial companies (IBS) in 2021. The data is categorized using the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI).

Of the companies compiled, food businesses dominated Indonesia's large and medium-sized industries with 7,498 units in 2021. This number significantly increased from 6,677 units in 2020.

The second largest IBS sector was rubber, rubber products, and plastics, with 2,600 units in 2021. Previously, companies in this sector numbered 2,518 units.

Third was the ready-made clothing sector, with 2,005 units in 2021. This figure decreased from the previous 2,146 units.

The fourth and fifth largest sectors were textiles and chemicals, with 1,988 and 1,840 units respectively.

Overall, the number of IBS companies reached 30,788 units in 2021, up from 29,363 units in 2020.

BPS explained that this data is processed from the Annual Survey of Manufacturing Industries (STPIM). The 2021 data uses the KBLI, adjusted to the *International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities* (ISIC).

The following are the 10 largest business groups classified as IBS in Indonesia in 2021:

* Food 7,498 units
* Rubber, rubber products, and plastics 2,600 units
* Ready-made clothing 2,005 units
* Textiles 1,988 units
* Chemicals and chemical products 1,840 units
* Non-metallic mineral products 1,731 units
* Metal products, except machinery and equipment 1,592 units
* Furniture 1,375 units
* Wood, wood products, and cork (excluding furniture), and wickerwork of bamboo, rattan, and similar materials 1,255 units
* Other processing 897 units
