Fuel Consumption Predicted to Peak 5 Days Before Eid al-Fitr

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) predicts that fuel consumption will peak on May 31, 2019, or five days before Eid al-Fitr. Gasoline consumption is expected to increase by 137,000 kiloliters (KL). Conversely, Gasoil (diesel) consumption is predicted to decrease by 10.46% to 36,226 KL due to restrictions on goods transportation.

According to the Director General of Oil and Gas, Djoko Siswanto, Pertamax or AKR 92 is predicted to see the highest consumption increase, rising 32.5% to 13,578 KL from 10,248 KL. Pertalite consumption will increase by 16% to 57,933 KL from 49,943 KL.

Premium consumption is expected to rise by 10.1% to 35,093 KL from 31,870 KL. Meanwhile, Avtur consumption will increase by 8.3% to 13,414 KL from 12,542 KL, and Turbo fuel will increase by 14.2% to 602 KL from 532 KL.

The government is anticipating this increase in fuel consumption by establishing a special fuel task force (satgas) at the central and regional offices. This aims to ensure fuel security during the 2019 Eid al-Fitr period.
