Top 10 Tin-Producing Countries in the World: Where Does Indonesia Rank?

One of Indonesia's most produced natural resources is tin. According to the Mineral Commodity Summaries published by the U.S. Geological Survey in January 2021, Indonesia was the world's second-largest tin producer in 2020, with a production of 66,000 tons.

In 2019, Indonesia produced 77,500 tons of tin. According to the International Tin Association, approximately 96 percent of tin production is carried out by PT. Timah, with mining operations based in Bangka Belitung and offshore.

China remains the world's largest tin producer. In 2019, it produced 84,500 tons of tin. This decreased to 81,000 tons in 2020.

Other major tin-producing countries in 2020 were Myanmar (33,000 tons), Peru (18,000 tons), and Congo (17,000 tons). Similar to China and Indonesia, tin production in Myanmar and Peru decreased compared to 2019, which saw production of 42,000 tons and 19,900 tons respectively. Only Congo saw an increase in tin production compared to 2019, rising from 12,000 tons to 17,000 tons.

According to the report, overall tin production in 2020 decreased compared to the previous year. This is consistent with the decline in global tin consumption, possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted mining and manufacturing industries worldwide.
