Prabowo Inaugurates Balikpapan RDMP, Indonesia's Largest Oil Refinery

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the oil refinery Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Monday (January 12, 2026).

The Balikpapan RDMP is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) undertaken by PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB), a subsidiary of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), the processing and petrochemical subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero).

The project's investment value reached US$7.4 billion or approximately IDR 124.67 trillion (assuming IDR 16,848 per US$).

Through this project, the oil refinery capacity in Balikpapan increased from 260 thousand barrels per stream day (MBSD) to 360 MBSD.

This capacity increase makes the Balikpapan RDMP the largest oil refinery in Indonesia, displacing the Cilacap Refinery in Central Java.
