East Java Imports Reach US$2.34 Billion in August 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that imports to East Java reached US$2.34 billion in August 2021, up 9.94% from the previous month's US$2.13 billion. Compared to the same period the previous year, imports to East Java increased by 48.82% in August 2021.

Cumulatively, imports to East Java totaled US$17.2 billion from January to August 2021. This figure is up 32.52% compared to the January-August 2020 period, which amounted to US$12.98 billion.

Based on the use of goods, raw/auxiliary materials were the largest contributor to the value of imports in East Java, namely US$1,736.67 million (74.13%). Meanwhile, imports of consumer goods amounted to US$473.13 million (20.2%) and capital goods amounted to US$132.87 million (5.67%).

Fruits were the goods with the largest increase in imports in the province on a monthly basis, namely 92.9%. This was followed by grains with a 70.82% increase in imports, jewelry/precious stones 37.25%, organic chemicals 28.97%, iron and steel 17.26%, and electrical machinery/equipment 14.47%.

Meanwhile, China was the largest non-oil importer to East Java in August 2021 with a value of US$562.98 million. This was followed by Australia and the United States with import values of US$115.4 million and US$113.4 million, respectively.
