Unemployment in Denpasar was the highest in Bali in August 2021.

Denpasar City had the highest Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) in Bali in August 2021, reaching 7.02%, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).

Denpasar City also had the highest OUR in Bali in August 2020, at 7.62%. This represents a 0.6-point decrease in the OUR from August 2020 to August 2021.

Badung Regency also had a high OUR, reaching 6.93% in August 2021, followed by Gianyar Regency and Buleleng Regency with OURs of 6.90% and 5.38%, respectively.

The lowest OUR was in Bangli Regency at 1.80%, followed by Karangasem Regency at 2.32%, and Tabanan Regency at 3.94%.

Compared to August 2020, almost all regencies/cities in Bali saw a decrease in their OUR in August 2021. Exceptions were Badung Regency and Buleleng Regency, which saw increases of 0.01 and 0.19 percentage points, respectively.

The Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) is an indicator used to measure the workforce not absorbed by the job market and reflects underutilization of the labor supply. The OUR from the August 2021 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) in Bali was 5.37%, down 0.25 percentage points compared to August 2020, which was 5.63%. This means that for every 100 people in the Bali workforce, approximately five are unemployed.
