21.32 Million Workers Affected by Covid-19 in August 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that 21.32 million working-age Indonesians were impacted by COVID-19 in August 2021. This figure represents an 11.67% increase compared to February 2021, when the number stood at 19.1 million.

However, the number of working-age individuals affected by COVID-19 in August 2021 decreased by 26.77% compared to August 2020, when it reached 29.12 million.

A total of 17.41 million workers impacted by COVID-19 experienced a reduction in working hours. This figure is higher than the 15.72 million recorded in February 2021 but lower than the 24.03 million recorded in August 2020.

Unemployment due to COVID-19 was recorded at 1.82 million, a 0.2% increase from February 2021's 1.62 million. However, this number decreased by 28.96% compared to August 2020, which saw 2.56 million unemployed.

There were also 1.39 million people temporarily not working, a 0.28% increase from February 2021's 1.11 million. Nevertheless, this figure decreased by 0.38% compared to August 2020's 1.77 million.

Furthermore, 700,000 people were not part of the workforce (BAK) due to COVID-19, a 0.05% increase from February 2021's 650,000. Despite this, the number decreased by 6.98% from August 2020's 760,000.
