The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 720 forestry companies in Indonesia. According to their distribution, the most forestry companies are located in Kalimantan.
In detail, of the 720 forestry companies in Indonesia, 256 are timber concession companies (HPH), 314 are forest plantation companies (HPHT), and 150 are wildlife and plant breeding companies (TSL).
The highest concentration of forestry companies is on Kalimantan Island, with 315 companies. Specifically, 163 are HPH companies, 111 are HPHT companies, and 41 are TSL companies.
Java Island ranks second with 126 forestry companies. Sumatra and Papua are in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with 45 and 43 forestry companies.
Furthermore, Maluku Island has 31 forestry companies, Sulawesi has 27, Bali has 20, and Nusa Tenggara has 13.
The highest number of HPH companies is located on Kalimantan Island, totaling 163 companies. The highest number of HPHT companies is equally distributed across Sumatra and Kalimantan Islands, with 111 companies each. TSL companies are most numerous on Java Island, with 59 companies.
For information, HPH forestry companies are companies holding permits for the utilization of timber forest products (IUPHHK) to utilize natural timber in production forests. Their activities consist of harvesting, logging, planting, maintenance, security, and marketing of timber forest products.
HPHT companies include companies holding IUPHHK permits in plantation forests (IUPHHK-HT), Perum Perhutani, and other companies utilizing plantation timber in production forests. Their activities consist of land preparation, seed or seedling production, planting, maintenance, security, harvesting or logging, and marketing of timber forest products.
TSL companies are companies that cultivate plants and wildlife through breeding and raising, while maintaining the purity of the species.
