The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there were 143.72 million people in the Indonesian workforce in August 2022, with a labor force participation rate (LFPR) of 68.63% of the working-age population.
The number of workers decreased by 291,400 (0.2%) compared to February 2022. Similarly, the LFPR decreased by 0.43 percentage points compared to February 2022.
However, compared to August 2021, the number of workers increased by 3.5 million (2.55%), and the LFPR increased by 0.83 percentage points.
The national workforce shows an upward trend as seen in the graph, in line with population growth. The LFPR, however, has fluctuated over the past 5 years.
BPS also reported that the working-age population (over 15 years old) totaled 209.42 million in August 2022.
Of this number, 143.72 million were classified as part of the workforce, with 135.3 million employed and 8.43 million unemployed.
Furthermore, 65.8 million working-age people were not classified as part of the workforce, comprising 15.6 million still in school, 41.25 million managing households, and 8.84 million in other statuses.
