What is the open unemployment rate in Papua and West Papua?

Open unemployment rate (OUR) in Papua has increased over the last three semesters. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that in February 2019, Papua's OUR was 3.42%, an increase of 0.22% from August 2018, which was 3.2%. The same trend is observed year-on-year, with an increase of 0.51% compared to February 2018, which stood at 2.91%. This is despite Papua's OUR having fallen to 3.62% in August 2017. A further decrease occurred in February 2018, reaching 2.91%.

In West Papua, the unemployment rate was higher than in Papua in February 2019, but decreased compared to the previous period. In February 2019, West Papua's unemployment rate was 5.28%, down 0.42% compared to February 2018.

Compared to August 2018, West Papua's OUR also fell by 1.02%. Urban populations dominated the highest unemployment rate at 8.76%. Meanwhile, the OUR for rural populations was 3.72%.
