2023 Data: Unemployment in Sidoarjo Regency Reaches 8.05%

The open unemployment rate (OUR) in Sidoarjo Regency in December 2023 decreased by 0.75% to 8.05% compared to December 2022. Compared to December 2021, the OUR also decreased from 10.87%.

Over the past ten years, the OUR has shown an upward trend. However, after four years of the Covid-19 pandemic since 2020, the OUR in Sidoarjo Regency has decreased.

Compared to other regencies/cities, the OUR in this regency/city ranks 28th nationally. The national average OUR in 2023 was 4.6%.

This decrease in the OUR is reflected in the number of employed people and the labor force published by BPS this year. The labor force in Sidoarjo Regency has decreased over the past three years. Historically, in 2021 there were 1.21 million workers, increasing to 1.34 million in 2022, and decreasing to 1.18 million in 2023.

Regarding the number of employed people, the number of workers in Sidoarjo Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 14 years, continuing after the Covid-19 pandemic. In the last four years, the number of workers has also shown an upward trend. In 2021, there were 1.07 million workers, increasing to 1.08 million in 2023.

The decrease in the OUR in Sidoarjo Regency is not directly related to the slump in economic growth in 2023. The economy in this region in 2023 was recorded at 6.16 percent. Previously, in 2022, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 7.53 percent.
