The Number of Poor People in NTT Decreased by 4,220 in March 2021

Poverty rates in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) decreased at the beginning of 2021. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the number of poor people in NTT in March 2021 was 1,169,300, down 4,220 (0.36%) from September 2020.

However, the number of poor people in NTT increased by 15,550 (1.38%) compared to March 2020. During the period of March 2017 – 2021, the highest number of poor people in NTT occurred in September 2020, reaching 1,173,500. The lowest number was recorded in September 2019, at 1,129,500.

Based on residence, poverty in both urban and rural areas decreased. The urban poverty rate in March 2021 was 8.6%, down 0.16% from September 2020. The rural poverty rate in March 2021 was 25.08%, down 0.18% from September 2020.

The Poverty Depth Index (P1) in NTT decreased from 4.16 in September 2020 to 3.96 in March 2021. The Poverty Severity Index also decreased from 1.24 to 1.05 during the same period.

The Gini ratio for both urban and rural areas in NTT also decreased in March 2021. The March 2021 Gini ratio for urban and rural areas was 0.346, down 0.01 compared to September 2020, which was 0.356.
