Civil servants (PNS) remain a sought-after career choice for job seekers. Besides being considered more prestigious than working in the private sector, the greater job security and welfare benefits in retirement for civil servants make openings for prospective civil servants always highly competitive.
Currently, there are 4.37 million civil servants spread across 34 provinces, encompassing both central and regional government employees. East Java has the highest number of civil servants compared to other provinces. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik) records 473,920 civil servants in East Java. Central Java is second with 432,857 civil servants, followed by West Java with 428,741.
On September 5, 2017, the government opened 17,928 positions for prospective civil servants across 61 institutions. The allocation of these openings consisted of 12,775 for Ministries, 4,653 for Government Agencies, and 500 for North Kalimantan Province.
