The Majority of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Early 2026 Came from Java

Based on data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), there were 21,137 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) deployed to various countries in January 2026.

The majority of PMI come from provinces on Java Island, namely West Java, Central Java, and East Java.

Together, these three provinces on Java Island account for approximately 64% of the total national PMI at the beginning of this year.

Here is a list of the top 10 provinces from which the most Indonesian migrant workers originate in January 2026:

1. West Java: 4,689 people
2. Central Java: 4,434 people
3. East Java: 4,339 people
4. NTB: 2,134 people
5. Lampung: 2,010 people
6. South Sulawesi: 666 people
7. Bali: 487 people
8. North Sumatra: 448 people
9. NTT: 349 people
10. Banten: 345 people

During this period, Taiwan became the main destination country for PMI, with a deployment of 8,302 people.

The next main destination countries for PMI are Malaysia with 4,716 people, Hong Kong with 2,517 people, and Japan with 1,884 people.

Most, or 5,493 PMI, work as caregivers, followed by 2,596 domestic workers and 1,841 plantation workers.
