The Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) recorded the handling of 6,573 cases involving Indonesian migrant workers in various countries during the 2010-2025 period.

By sector, during 2010-2025, the highest number of cases occurred among domestic workers with 2,788 cases, followed by the fisheries sector with 998 cases and factory workers with 663 cases.

SBMI added that complaints regarding the vulnerability of Indonesian migrant workers are spread across more than 90 destination countries, with Saudi Arabia having the highest number, reaching 1,274 cases.

“The highest figures appeared in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea,” SBMI explained.

According to SBMI, this distribution of migrant workers repeats a pattern from the early 2010s, when workers were encouraged to go abroad as foreign exchange contributors, but continued to face multiple layers of risk.

“From recruitment, forced labor, to minimal legal protection in destination countries,” SBMI stated.
