Most Migrant Workers in the First Quarter of 2025 Originated from Java Island

According to data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), 71,392 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) were placed in various countries in the first quarter of 2025.

The majority of PMIs originated from provinces on the island of Java, namely East Java, West Java, and Central Java.

Combined, these three Javanese provinces contributed approximately 64% of the total national PMI throughout the first quarter of this year.

The following is a list of the top 10 provinces of origin for Indonesian migrant workers in the first quarter of 2025:

1. East Java: 16,594 people
2. West Java: 14,537 people
3. Central Java: 14,361 people
4. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB): 11,496 people
5. Lampung: 5,174 people
6. Bali: 2,326 people
7. South Sulawesi: 1,638 people
8. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): 889 people
9. Banten: 887 people
10. North Sumatra: 621 people

In the first quarter of 2025, Hong Kong was the main destination country for PMIs, with 21,802 placements, equivalent to 30% of the total national PMI.

The next main destination countries for PMIs were Taiwan (16,406 people), Malaysia (15,644 people), and Japan (4,333 people).

In terms of profession, the majority, or 21,954 PMIs, were domestic workers. This was followed by caregivers (10,494 people), plantation workers (8,737 people), and general laborers (4,439 people).
