Nearly 2,000 Newly Appointed Civil Servants Resign: Here's Why

The Indonesian State Civil Apparatus Agency (BKN) recorded 1,967 prospective civil servants (CPNS) for 2024 who withdrew after passing the selection process.

BKN Head Zudan Arif Fakrulloh explained that this number came from 16,167 CPNS resulting from "optimization," a special government policy to fill vacant positions.

"This optimization means that originally, the concerned individuals did not pass the selection for the position they applied for," said Zudan in a working meeting with Commission II of the DPR (House of Representatives) on Tuesday (22/4/2025).

Some of these CPNS resulting from optimization subsequently withdrew, primarily due to the location of their placement being too far from their domicile.

The following is a detailed breakdown of the reasons for the withdrawal of 2024 CPNS after the optimization process:

1. Placement too far from domicile: 1,285 people
2. Family permission issues: 320 people
3. Health issues concerning parents: 156 people
4. Considered to have withdrawn by the proposing institution: 92 people
5. Currently pursuing or about to pursue further education: 44 people
6. Personal health issues: 21 people
7. Bound by contract with another institution/employer: 13 people
8. Incorrect choice of placement position: 11 people
9. Partner's health issues: 8 people
10. Unable to fulfill the required documents by the deadline: 8 people
11. Feeling ineligible for passing: 6 people
12. Income not meeting expectations: 3 people

Nevertheless, Zudan stated that the government will not impose sanctions on the CPNS resulting from optimization who withdrew.

"Because this is a matter of choice; if they want to accept it, they can; if not, it's also fine," he said.
