Generation Z (born 1997-2012) had the highest internet penetration rate among all age groups. This group, currently aged 12-27, recorded an internet penetration rate of 87.46%.

Next were millennials (born 1981-1996, aged 28-43), with internet penetration at 84.71%, followed by Generation X (born 1965-1980, aged 44-59) at 77.11%.

Internet penetration for post-Gen Z (born after 2013, under 12 years old) was 75.68%, and for baby boomers (born 1946-1964, aged 60-78) it was 63.56%.

Meanwhile, the pre-boomer generation (born before 1945, over 79 years old) had the lowest internet penetration rate, at only 18.18% in 2024.

The APJII survey involved 1,950 respondents from 64 underdeveloped districts across 17 provinces. Data collection was conducted from July to September 2024 through face-to-face and telephone interviews.

According to Regulation of the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Permendes-PDTT) Number 11 of 2020, "underdeveloped regions" are districts whose areas and communities are less developed than other regions nationally.

59.23% of respondents were male and 40.77% were female. Respondents were dominated by millennials (aged 28-43) at 40.10%, followed by Generation Z (aged 12-27) at 34.36%, and Generation X (aged 44-59) at 6.05%.
