The Number of Indonesian Migrant Workers Increased to 24,000 in October 2022: These are the Provinces Contributing the Most!

The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) reported that the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) reached 24,088 in October 2022. This figure is up 10.8% month-to-month (mtm) compared to the previous month's 21,739.

This achievement also shows a 257.76% increase year-on-year (yoy) compared to the same period last year. In October 2021, only 6,733 Indonesian migrant workers were placed.

By province, East Java still dominated as the highest origin of national migrant workers throughout October 2022, with 5,757 individuals (24%). It was followed by Central Java with 5,220 (22%), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) with 3,905 (16%), West Java with 3,744 (16%), and North Sumatra with 1,873 (8%).

Malaysia was the main destination country for Indonesian migrant workers in October 2022, with 7,094 individuals (29%). Other major destination countries include Hong Kong with 6,448 (27%), Taiwan with 6,055 (25%), South Korea with 1,806 (7%), and Saudi Arabia with 570 (2%).

Based on gender, female migrant workers significantly outnumbered males in October 2022. The number of female migrant workers was recorded at 14,238, or approximately 59% of the total migrant workers, while males numbered only 9,850 (41%).

In total, the placement of Indonesian migrant workers from January to October 2022 reached 146,955. October 2022 recorded the highest number of placements, while the lowest number was recorded in February 2022 at 5,658.
