The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data showing that the open unemployment rate (OUR) in Langkat Regency reached 6.33% in 2023. This figure is a decrease of 0.55% compared to December 2022, which recorded 6.88%. However, compared to December 2021, the figure increased by 1.21%.
Over the past five years, the highest open unemployment rate (OUR) was recorded in 2020 at 7.02%, while the lowest was recorded in 2018 at 4.67%.
Compared to other regencies/cities, the open unemployment rate (OUR) in this regency/city ranks 90th nationally. The national average open unemployment rate (OUR) in 2023 was 4.3%.
The decrease in the open unemployment rate (OUR) is reflected in the number of employed people and the labor force published by BPS this year. The labor force in Langkat Regency has increased over the past three years. Historically, in 2021 there were 538,760 workers, increasing to 562,880 in 2022 and 602,080 in 2023.
Regarding the number of employed people, the number of workers in Langkat Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 14 years, and within the last four years, the number of workers has also been on an upward trend. In 2021, there were 511,150 workers, increasing to 563,970 in 2023.
The decrease in the open unemployment rate (OUR) in Langkat Regency is not directly related to the economic growth in this region, which also continued to increase in 2023. The economy in this region in 2023 recorded a growth of 4.93 percent. Previously, in 2022, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 4.69 percent.
