Serang Regency had the highest open unemployment rate in Banten in August 2021.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in Banten Province was 8.98% in August 2021, down 1.66 percentage points compared to the same period last year at 10.64%. The TPT for males was lower than that for females, at 8.8%. Meanwhile, the TPT for females was 9.21% in August 2021.

By regency/city, the highest TPT was recorded in Serang Regency, at 10.58%, followed by Cilegon City at 10.13%. The lowest TPT was in Pandeglang Regency, at 7.7%.

According to the highest level of education completed, the TPT for Vocational High School (SMK) graduates was the highest compared to other education levels, at 13.7%. Meanwhile, the lowest TPT was among those who completed Diploma I/II/III education, at 3.48%.

BPS also noted that there were 99,850 unemployed people in Banten due to the Covid-19 pandemic in August 2021. Furthermore, 36,010 people were classified as Not in the Labor Force, 55,330 were temporarily unemployed, and 1,030,000 people were working but experienced a reduction in working hours.

For information, the TPT in Banten Province in August 2021 was the third highest nationally after Riau Islands (9.91%) and West Java (9.82%). The national TPT was 6.49%.
