The Riau Islands Open Unemployment Rate was 9.91% in August 2021.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the open unemployment rate (TPT) in the Riau Islands was 9.91% in August 2021. This figure was the highest in Indonesia.

However, the Riau Islands succeeded in lowering the TPT from the previous period. The TPT in the Riau Islands decreased by 0.43 points from 10.34% in August 2020. Compared to February 2021, the TPT in the Riau Islands decreased by 0.21 points from 10.12%.

BPS also reported that the number of working-age people affected by Covid-19 in the Riau Islands was 209,506. This number decreased by 27.40% from the same period last year, which was 288,549 people.

Specifically, 150,644 people experienced a reduction in working hours and 26,405 were unemployed due to Covid-19. Furthermore, 9,216 people were temporarily unemployed, and 8,190 were not part of the workforce (BAK) due to Covid-19.

However, the working-age population affected by Covid-19 in August 2021 increased by 46.92% compared to February 2021. At that time, the number of working-age people affected by Covid-19 was only 142,593.
