The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data showing that the open unemployment rate (OUR) in West Jakarta City reached 6.39% in 2023. This figure is a decrease of 0.71% compared to December 2022, which recorded 7.1%. Compared to December 2021, the figure decreased by 2.67%.
The open unemployment rate (OUR) over the past five years reached its highest point in 2020 at 12.27% and its lowest in 2018 at 5.42%.
Compared to other regencies/cities, the open unemployment rate in this regency/city ranks 87th nationally. The national average open unemployment rate in 2023 was 4.3%.
The reduction in the open unemployment rate (OUR) this year can be seen from the condition of the number of the workforce and the number of employed people. The number of the workforce in West Jakarta City has shown an upward trend over the past 16 years. A different condition was observed in the four years after COVID, with the number of the workforce showing a downward trend. In 2021, the number of the workforce was recorded at 1.3 million workers, and in 2023, it decreased to 1.24 million workers.
Regarding the number of employed people, the number of workers in West Jakarta City has decreased over the past three years. Historically, in 2022, there were 1.23 million workers; in 2023, this number decreased to 1.17 million workers; and in 2024, it was recorded at 1.16 million workers.
The decrease in the open unemployment rate (OUR) in West Jakarta City is not directly related to the slump in economic growth in 2023. The economy in this region in 2023 was recorded at 5.3 percent. Previously, in 2022, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 5.52 percent.
