East Kalimantan's Poverty Rate Decreased in March 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a decrease in the number of poor people in East Kalimantan in March 2021. The number of impoverished residents in the province was 241,770 in March 2021, a decrease of 2,200 compared to 243,990 in September 2020.

The decrease in the number of impoverished people is also in line with a decrease in the poverty rate in East Kalimantan to 6.57% from 6.64% in September 2020. The Poverty Line (PL) in March 2021 increased to Rp 689,035 per capita per month from Rp 669,662 per capita per month in September 2020.

In March 2021, the Gini ratio for East Kalimantan fell by 0.001 points to 0.334 from 0.335 points in September 2020. This indicates a decrease in income inequality among the population.

Factors influencing poverty in East Kalimantan include: the Q1-2021 Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) grew by 1.42% to Rp 188.64 trillion compared to Rp 116.98 trillion in Q3-2020; household consumption expenditure in Q1-2021 grew by 0.38% compared to Q3-2020; and the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) also fell to 6.81% in February 2021 from 6.87% in August 2020.
